ABOUT US
I finished a degree at University, I was a Civil Engineer, working in an Electrical & Construction company in Sydney. In the early 1980's the Engineering trade was a male dominated industry, and there was no room for a small petite young girl to make it, thus forcing me to change my career.
With no knowledge of the printing industry, I started working in the dispatch section of one of the oldest printing companies in Australia, Leigh Mardon Pty Ltd, later owned by Coca Cola Amatil. I was promoted to work in the estimating department (which was so easy at that time, as I was a Building Estimator to start with) and that's when it all started. I worked and trained on the floor, hands on training to be able to apply my estimating skills. It was all fun and exciting, having another trade in my life, and I fell in love with the art of printing.
I had the passion for it and later on I was promoted to be an Assistant Production Manager and in charge of the overall running of the business. I have worked with more male co-workers than I ever did in my Construction experience, it was funny! And I had to fight for my spot and to be known as "one of the few females" in the industry who actually knows printing.
I have trained both in school and on the floor for 2 decades, it was time that I make it on my own, and Monteray Supplies was born. With my mentor from the Netherlands, it was easy to see things ahead of you; his name is Robbert Korrenhoff, one of the oldest Perfumers in Europe. It was his idea that in order to succeed, you have to love what you do and you "Must Know" what you are doing! |
